Security experts are raising alarms about the growing threat posed by Iranian drones, particularly the Shahed models, which are reportedly being used to target U.S. bases and Gulf countries. According to Ukrainian intelligence, Iran has deployed Russian-produced Shahed drones, equipped with advanced capabilities, to attack U.S. installations in the Middle East. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that these drones have been used against U.S. bases, as reported by the Institute for the Study of War.

The Shahed drones, modified with Verba shoulder-fired air-defense systems, have increased firepower and defensive capabilities. This development comes amid ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, which escalated after the U.S. and Israel launched military operations against Iran in February 2026, known as Operation Epic Fury. These operations resulted in significant damage and casualties across the region, including the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with missile and drone strikes, targeting U.S. and allied installations in the Gulf, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates. The conflict has disrupted global trade, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for oil transportation. Iran's actions have led to heightened security concerns and calls for diplomatic solutions to prevent further escalation.

The situation remains tense as both sides continue to exchange strikes, and security experts warn that the threat from Iranian drones could further destabilize the region. The U.S. and its allies are urged to take immediate action to address this growing threat and ensure the safety of their installations and personnel in the Middle East.
